Head weaver
Nell Fairhurst
At the mill 22 years
Nell writes the drafts. Every fabric in this catalogue began as a threading plan in her notebook — shafts down the side, treadles across the top — and was checked on a four-shaft sample loom before a full warp was ever beamed.
She came to the mill from a handloom workshop in the Borders and still keeps a table loom by the office window for trying colour orders. Most of what a customer sees as a design decision here is really a structural one that she made first.
